What is a Stun gun?

A stun gun is a direct contact weapon that has electrodes that make contact with the attacker in order to deliver an electrical charge. The electrical charge temporarily disrupts the muscle functions as it travels through the assailant's clothes and into his or her body.

How do Stun Guns Work?

Stun guns have low amps and high voltage. What makes it an effective weapon is the output amps. Volts represent the amount of electrons pushed out of a power source such as an outlet. Amps, on the other hand, represent the force by which electrons are pushed out of the outlet. To illustrate this point, let us use the analogy of the fireman's hose. The quantity of the water coming out of the hose can represent the volts while the pressure can represent the amps or the force of the water. A large volume of water without pressure will just dribble out of the hose. If the same volume of water is pressurized, the output can be quite damaging and at times can be used to control a crowd. The higher voltage is very important as it allows the electrical charge to penetrate the assailant’s clothes and reach the body.

How do I use a Stun Gun?

You should focus the stun gun on areas with high nerve concentration near the skin surface such as the shoulders, neck, and stomach. A one-second contact with the gun will repel or startle. This may cause the assailant's muscles to contract. A contact lasting for one or two seconds will lead to muscle spasms and a confused state. Three seconds or more will lead to the loss of equilibrium and muscle control, loss of concentration and severe disorientation. The assailant will be unable to recover for several minutes and effects may even last for up to 15 minutes. You have to maintain the contact until the attacker is down before getting away. Be assured that the electricity will not travel back to you from the assailant meaning you will not get shocked.

Why Stun Guns work?

Stun guns cause severe discomfort to the sensory nervous system nerves close to the skin surface. This is because of the fact that the device's energy is discharged in the muscles at a high pulse frequency energy. As a result of this tiny neurological impulses responsible for the control of muscle movement are scrambled. This will lead to disorientation and loss of balance. The assailant will be disabled from a few minutes up to 30 minutes with no serious or permanent injury.

Can I scare someone off without touching them?

Although the stun gun is an up close and personal kind of non-lethal weapon, you can test- fire it before the attacker reaches you. The electrical current passing between the electrodes will create a loud crackling noise. This can be intimidating enough to discourage the assailant sending him or her on their way.

Are Stun Guns affordable?

Simple answer yes you can find many cheap Stun Guns and cheap doesn't mean poor quality Stun Guns are very affordable our site has many Stun Gun options under $20.00.

How long does the battery last?

Our Stun Guns have rechargeable batteries, the time between charging will depend on how often you use your Stun Gun if you just keep it handy in case of emergency and test fire monthly it is good just to do a charge once a month. On the other hand if you use the flashlight a lot then it would be best to charge weekly.

Do Stun Guns have safety switches?

It depends on what type of Stun Gun you purchase most of our Stun Guns have three position switches Off/Flashlight/Stun, and when in the Stun position you have to push a button or a Trigger. When the switch is in the off or flashlight position there is no chance of the Stun Gun going off. Some of our Stun Guns also have wrist straps with disabling pins these pins are inserted into the bottom of the Stun Gun and can only be fired if the pin is in, these are designed so that if an attacker grabs the Stun Gun from your hand the pin will come out and they will not be able to use it against you.

Should I test fire my Stun Gun?

Yes definitely you want to make sure the battery life is still good and everything is working properly. When test firing you should only fire for 1 or 2 seconds. Firing into the air for to long can damage the prongs because the Stun Gun is not grounded. When you use against an attacker you do not have to worry about damaging because it will be grounded.

If the person I am using the Stun Gun on is touching me will I get shocked?

No it will not matter if the person is touching you, the attacker will be the only one to feel the effects.

Will a Stun Gun work thru clothes?

Yes absolutely Stun Guns are designed to work thru clothing.

Can I fire my Stun Gun more than once against an attacker?

Make sure you keep your Stun Gun charge at all times. With a full charge your Stun Gun can be used against multiple attackers.

Are Stun Guns legal?

Stun Guns are legal in most states but there are a few that still have restrictions. You can check our laws and restrictions page, which has a list of states we can not ship to this page is updated whenever there is a change in the laws.

Can someone be killed from a Stun Gun?

The chances of a Stun Gun killing someone are very slim, you could kill someone with a cell phone or a soccer ball if you really wanted to. Stun Guns are made to be less than lethal self defense, the amount of amperage needed to kill someone is generally one ampere which is why Stun Guns range from 2.4 - 4.4 milliamps. So to put it simply you could kill someone with just about anything but doing it with a Stun Gun would be highly unlikely.
